BAYHOST Scholar joins Chair of Common Law
The Chair of Common Law is excited to host Sergei Manzhosov, a graduate of Saint-Petersburg State University in Russia, during an extended research stay in Passau. Mr. Manzhosov was recently awarded a BAYHOST scholarship by the Free State of Bavaria and intends to lay the foundations of a comparative PhD project during the 2024/2025 academic year.
Key questions of his research agenda include how courts in countries like the United States, Germany or Russia depart from their own constitutional precedent (especially in the area of human rights protection), how the doctrine of stare decisis (a key feature of the common law tradition) should be understood today, and how the concept of inalienable human rights fares in contemporary times.
Before embarking on this project, Mr. Manzhosov was a lecturer and junior researcher at Saint-Petersburg State University and a non-resident fellow at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
